As Ogun State plans to join the lockdown as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari towards flattening the curve of the Coronavirus pandemic that has taken the world by surprise, Ogun State House of Assembly member representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, Hon. Mrs. Modupe Mujota distritributed foodstuff to members of her constituency.

Honourable Modupe Onikepo Mujota said it was to serve as a palliative to members of her constituency during the period of lockdown commencing on Friday 3rd April, 2020.

Some of the areas covered include Ago Oko, Elega Olomore, Mokola, Totoro, Iberekodo, Olorunda, Ibara Orile, Ijale Papa, Lafenwa,Ita-Eko, Ilugun, Sodeke and a visit to the Leprosy, Community Development Council among others where the foodstuff was handed over as a relief to the people.

Hon Mujota who has been extending hands of fellowship like these sees this gesture towards her people as her modest contribution towards supporting the State government in order to cushion the effect of the sit-at-home order by the Federal Government.

She urged the people to comply with Federal and State Government directives on the lockdown order and obey all precautionary measures recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with journalists expressed appreciation to Hon. Modupe Mujota for the kindness and humanitarian gesture shown to the people.

According to a member of Abeokuta North Zonal Community Development Council, (CDC) Mr. Adeniyi Olusegun, the relief foodstuff would go a long way in salvaging the situation, as many residents of the community are artisans who live through daily means.

"We want to thank our Honourable for remembering the poor people in this difficult time. Don't let me deceive you, many of us don't have hope of where to get money to buy the skyrocketing foodstuff at the market.

"Majority of us are artisans who eke out a living from our daily activities. we don't have steady or monthly income, we can only get money to buy food if we are allowed to go to work.

"We have Okada riders, taxi drivers, vulcanizers, carpenters, site engineers, beer parlour operators and hoteliers among us; if we don't work daily, how can we get money to buy food?".

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Kusimo Folasade, at Totoro area of Abeokuta, commended the lawmaker for the consistent sensitization about COVID -19 pandemic and the distribution of foodstuff to the people at the grassroots.

"This is commendable, at least, if I add this bag of garri and beans to the bag of rice and other materials donated by other donors and the State Government, it will still sustain me and my family for about 10days."

It is expected that similar emotions are evoked across the Constituency on the back of Hon. Mujota's humanitarian gift.
