Deputy Minority Whip, Adekoya Reacts to the Arrests of Hon. Shina Peller
House of Representatives Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. Adesegun Adekoya Abdel-Majid has condemned the arrest and detention of Hon. Shina Peller and rendering him incommunicado by seizing his telephones.

“There is nothing in our statute books which says somebody should be denied access to people, especially their lawyers even when being incarcerated. It is even worse that a Nigerian could be arrested and detained while trying to effect the bail of others without any disclosed reasons.”

Hon. Shina Peller, lawmaker representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Oyo State was allegedly arrested and detained by police officers at the Maroko Police station in Lagos State whole trying to effect the nails of some guests who attended the Lagos Nite Club, Quilox owned and operated by the lawmaker.

According to Hon. Adekoya, if a Federal lawmaker like Peller could be subjected to such lawless police system, it remains to be seen how many innocent Nigerians would have been victims of such sinister and unjust system of arrest and unlawful detention.

“I think it is right time Nigerians begin to raise their voice in protest of a system of wittchunt in our police system. The police should heed the call of reason and many voiceless Nigerians by releasing the lawmaker forthwith.
