Full Answer

In the United States, Coca-Cola Zero contains both aspartame and acesulfame potassium. Aspartame is an artificial, non-saccharide sweetener that is commonly known by its trade names Equal and NutraSweet. Acesulfame potassium is a calorie-free sugar substitute marketed under the trade names Sunett and Sweet Ones. In several European and South American countries, Coca-Cola Zero contains sodium cyclamate as an artificial sweetener. However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned the use of sodium cyclamate in 1969 because it was once believed to be carcinogenic.
