The People's Democratic Party (PDP) national caucus at its meeting held in Enugu recently turned down the nomination of Barrister Kabiru Usman for the position of National Publicity Secretary.

The leaders of the party charged the North Central zone to present another candidate who "must be a professional and highly visible."
Impeccable sources at the meeting revealed that the "issue of who will speak for the party was considered at our Enugu meeting recently.
"Kabiru's name was mentioned and generality of us opposed it because there are basic qualities we require of our next NPS which he does not have.
"We have made this facts available to his North Central zone. If they can not bring an acceptable candidate the party will go into election to choose an acceptable candidate," a source further disclosed.
Kabiru was said to have engaged in a damage control effort by going on AIT Kaakaki programme penultimate Monday which watchers described as 'dulling.'
He was also said to have called a few of his political associates to PDP Secretariat in Lokoja and claimed to have been endorsed.
The state party chairman, Engr. Sam Uhuotu, had since denied endorsing any of the candidates from Kogi and described himself as a 'father of all aspirants." The State Youth Leader was absent at the meeting.
Meanwhile, one of the former PDP governors from the north central zone has cautioned that the zone will not accept any candidate that is lacking in capacity from Kogi State.
The governor, who was quoted to have given this caution at a meeting held in a popular hotel in Wuse Zone 5, noted that the next NPS must be a member who had displayed capacity, visible and can deliver on both the print, broadcast and new media.
"This is not a job for a learner," the governor was quoted to have told the meeting.
